Who Was Eartha Kitt's Father?

Eartha Kitt never knew who her father was, though there is much speculation that he was a relatively wealthy white landowner in South Carolina. At the time she was born, it was illegal for the father of an illegitimate child to be revealed, and Eartha spent her life wondering who he was. Later in life, she pursued the issue through the court, but the court refused to reveal the father's name.
